The Enugu State Police Command has debunked a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that female police officers were directed to make compulsory financial contributions for the 70th anniversary celebration of the Nigeria Women Police. In a statement on Sunday, the Command described the claim as false, baseless, and completely misleading.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command never issued such an order to any of its female personnel, noting that the Nigeria Police Force has standard procedures for issuing official directives. He added that the format and WhatsApp platform through which the purported message was shared clearly indicate that it could not have originated from the Command.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered the State Intelligence Department to launch a full investigation to uncover the individuals behind the fake message. He urged any female officer who may have made any payment in response to the misleading directive to come forward and support the investigation.
The Command called on the public to disregard the report and avoid spreading unverified information.
