The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a notorious supplier of illicit drugs to bandits operating in Niger State, even as it recorded multiple seizures and arrests across several states and intercepted drug consignments bound for Europe and North America.
The suspect, 33-year-old Mohammed Sani, popularly known as “Gamboli,” was apprehended three weeks after he escaped arrest during a raid on his residence in Anguwan Makera, Kuta, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. NDLEA operatives had on November 20, 2025, recovered 471.8 kilograms of skunk from his home, but he fled before officers could arrest him. Acting on processed intelligence, NDLEA operatives tracked him to a drug joint in Anguwan Fadama, Kuta, where he was arrested on December 11. Intelligence reports identified Gamboli as a major supplier of illicit drugs to bandits terrorising parts of Shiroro Local Government Area.
In Abia State, NDLEA officers on December 11 dismantled a clandestine codeine syrup manufacturing factory at Amapu Igbengwo village in Osisioma Local Government Area, recovering 9,015 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 1,152.2 kilograms. In Enugu State, operatives arrested two suspects along major highways with a combined 101.8 kilograms of skunk on the same day.
A raid on a notorious drug joint known as “Beere the California” in Ido, Oyo State, led to the seizure of skunk, synthetic cannabis and methamphetamine, while a follow-up operation in Ibadan resulted in the arrest of a female suspect and the recovery of 238.4 kilograms of skunk. In Lagos, NDLEA officers arrested two suspects at the Seme-Badagry axis with 50,000 pills of tramadol, while similar operations in Ogun State led to the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of 98 kilograms of skunk.
In Ondo State, NDLEA operatives raided a compound in Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area, arresting a 55-year-old woman and her 29-year-old son with 1,187 kilograms of skunk and its seeds. Additional seizures were recorded in Edo and Gombe States, where suspects were arrested with large quantities of skunk and tramadol capsules.
The agency also intercepted 907 pills of tramadol, tapentadol, cocodamol, amitriptyline and bromazepam concealed in containers of local black soap and designer wears at courier companies in Lagos, with the consignments destined for the United States, Canada and Sweden. At the Apapa Seaport, a joint examination with other security agencies led to the interception of 170,000 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 23,579 kilograms.
Meanwhile, NDLEA commands across the country sustained their War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaigns, reaching schools, worship centres and traditional institutions in states including Katsina, Kano, Benue and Enugu.
Commending the officers involved in the arrests and seizures, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), urged personnel nationwide to sustain the agency’s balanced approach to drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
