Residents of Igbooye in the Eredo area of Lagos State have appealed to relevant authorities to urgently restore electricity to the community after months of prolonged power outage.
The residents expressed concern over what they described as the apparent lack of response from the electricity distribution company serving the area, noting that the absence of power has continued to hamper business activities, social life, and overall community development.
According to them, the persistent blackout is also affecting the health and well-being of vulnerable groups, particularly children and the elderly, who are increasingly exposed to harsh living conditions without reliable electricity.
Community members lamented that the lack of power supply has consistently undermined festive periods and important socio-cultural events in Igbooye Kingdom, depriving residents and visitors of the full experience of such celebrations.
They specifically called for the immediate restoration of electricity ahead of the forthcoming first coronation anniversary of the Orijeru of Igbooye, Oba TPL Abdul Rasaq Akanni Musa, as well as the installation of Baales and chiefs scheduled for next week.
The residents noted that the events are expected to attract guests from different parts of Nigeria and the diaspora, and stressed that stable electricity would enhance the success of the celebrations and project a positive image of the community.
The coronation anniversary of Oba Abdul Rasaq Akanni Musa is regarded as a significant milestone in the history of Igbooye Kingdom, and residents expressed hope that prompt intervention by the authorities would ensure a befitting atmosphere for the historic occasion.
