The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability, public safety, and infrastructural development following the clearance of accumulated sand silt along the Lekki–Epe Expressway by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
The clearance operation followed a formal request by Hon. Olowa to LAWMA, prompting the agency to deploy personnel and specialised equipment to Ibeju-Lekki to address the environmental challenges caused by prolonged siltation along the busy highway.
The affected sections of the Lekki–Epe Expressway had, over time, experienced significant sand buildup, which restricted vehicular movement, heightened flood risks during the rainy season, and diminished the aesthetic value of the corridor, an important economic route linking Ibeju-Lekki to other parts of Lagos State.
The operation, which commenced early in the day, involved the evacuation of large volumes of sand silt from critical points along the expressway within the Ibeju-Lekki axis, restoring smoother traffic flow and improving road safety for motorists and residents.
Reacting to the intervention, Hon. Olowa expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the management of LAWMA for their swift response. He noted that the exercise complements ongoing efforts by the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to rehabilitate infrastructure and improve environmental conditions across the area.
The council chairman also urged residents and stakeholders to support government efforts by maintaining environmental discipline, discouraging indiscriminate dumping of waste, and protecting public infrastructure for the collective benefit of the local government.
The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government reiterated its resolve to continue collaborating with relevant state agencies to promote a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment for residents and road users.
