Nigeria Police Academy Mourns Pioneer Commandant, Retired AIG C.T. Akagbosu

The Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Assistant Inspector General of Police Patrick A. Atayero, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police C.T. Akagbosu, MNI, the pioneer Commandant of the Academy.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and the entire Nigeria Police Force, AIG Atayero described the late Akagbosu as a disciplined officer whose contributions laid a solid foundation for police education and leadership development in Nigeria.
Retired AIG Akagbosu passed away on January 1, 2026, at the age of 84. He would have attained the age of 85 on February 18, 2026. His death, the Commandant noted, marks the end of a life devoted to public service, discipline, and institutional development within the Nigeria Police Force.
The late senior officer served as the first Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy from January 20, 1988, to January 19, 1990, during the formative years of the institution. Through firm leadership and steady commitment, he helped define the Academy’s early vision and set standards that continue to guide its training and professionalism.
AIG Atayero noted that colleagues and cadets remember Akagbosu as a principled and dedicated officer who placed high value on mentorship and discipline, adding that his impact on police education remains an enduring part of the Academy’s legacy.
The Inspector-General of Police, according to the statement, acknowledged with gratitude the late officer’s years of meritorious service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation, describing his life as one that continues to inspire serving officers and cadets.
The Nigeria Police Force also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, praying for strength and comfort in their time of grief, while wishing the departed eternal rest.
