Investigative Journalist Juliana Francis Bereaved as Mother Dies at 94

Grief has enveloped renowned Nigerian investigative journalist, Juliana Francis, following the death of her mother, Ezinne Chinyere Francis Onyemelam, who passed away on February 25, 2026, at the age of 94.
Mrs Onyemelam died after a brief illness at a hospital in Abia State, bringing to a close a life widely described by family members as one defined by resilience, faith and unwavering devotion to her loved ones.
A native of Amaoba Ikputu Oboro in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, the late matriarch was married to the late Mr Francis Onyemelam. Together, they built a family rooted in strong values and communal ties. She is survived by five children, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Family sources say Mrs Onyemelam endured several health challenges over the years but remained steadfast in her faith and commitment to her family. Her life, they noted, reflected perseverance, generosity and deep spiritual conviction.
In an emotional tribute shared shortly after her passing, Juliana Francis expressed profound sorrow over the loss of her mother, describing her as her “iroko tree” and a pillar of strength whose absence leaves an irreplaceable void.
She spoke of the deep bond they shared, recalling the lessons, love and inspiration her mother gave her throughout her life. The journalist also paid tribute to her late father, expressing hope that both parents would remain forever cherished in her heart.
Mrs Onyemelam is remembered by relatives and members of her community as a nurturing mother and grandmother whose influence spans generations.
The family has indicated that funeral arrangements will be private, with details to be communicated at a later date.
