The Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Command, has intensified community engagement efforts with a statewide walkathon as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week.
The exercise, held in Asaba, saw officers and men of the Command trek from the Police Headquarters along Okpanam Road to the Stephen Keshi Stadium and back, while similar events were simultaneously conducted across the state’s nine Area Commands.
Police authorities said the initiative was aimed at reinforcing visibility, strengthening public trust, and demonstrating readiness to ensure safety and security across communities.
Speaking during the exercise, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi John Oyeniyi, said the walkathon reflects the Command’s commitment to community-oriented policing.
He noted that the activity aligns with the theme of the 2026 National Police Week, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” emphasizing the need for closer collaboration between the police and the public.
Oyeniyi assured residents that the police remain accessible and responsive, urging them to provide useful information that can aid crime prevention and enhance security.
He also encouraged members of the public to report concerns promptly, assuring that such complaints would be handled professionally.
The Command added that the walkathon also served as a platform to promote physical fitness among officers while projecting a people-friendly image of the police.
Officials say the initiative is part of broader efforts to improve public confidence and deepen cooperation in tackling security challenges across the state.
