Amid evolving security threats in Nigeria’s Southeast, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has reaffirmed the need for deeper interagency cooperation during a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Oluyemi Thomas Olatoye.
The visit, which took place at the Division’s Headquarters in Enugu, was part of the Police Commissioner’s familiarization tour and a strategic move to strengthen existing ties between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army in the region.
Speaking during the engagement, CP Giwa noted that the complexity of today’s security landscape—ranging from organized crime to insurgent threats—demands coordinated action among all security stakeholders.
“Contemporary security challenges are too layered and dynamic for isolated responses,” he said. “It is through strong and sustained partnerships across security agencies, and with active community involvement, that we can achieve long-term peace and stability.”
Responding, Major General Olatoye—who commands security operations across the entire Southeast and Cross River State, and coordinates the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Udoka—welcomed the Police delegation and echoed the call for synergy. He emphasized the need for continuous intelligence sharing and proactive joint operations.
“The success of our mission lies in unity of purpose. Strategic collaboration among agencies, supported by actionable intelligence from the public, is essential to neutralize threats and build safer communities,” the GOC stated.
The two commanders also discussed operational cooperation under the framework of Operation Udoka, a regional task force established to tackle security threats in the Southeast.
CP Giwa was accompanied by senior officers from the Enugu State Command Management Team, highlighting the institutional backing behind the renewed push for cooperation.
The visit marks a continued effort to enhance interagency trust, reduce operational silos, and coordinate intelligence-led policing and military efforts across the region.
