The Ogun State Police Command has intensified efforts to combat violent crimes with the appointment of Daramola Sunday Thompson as Commander of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, approved the appointment as part of the implementation of reform directives introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu. The reforms are aimed at restructuring tactical operations and strengthening coordinated responses to security threats across state commands.
According to the Command, the establishment of the VCRU is designed to create a unified, intelligence-driven unit capable of responding swiftly and effectively to violent crimes, while improving accountability and operational efficiency.
The appointment followed a rigorous screening process, which also marked the commencement of an orientation programme for selected personnel of the unit. The Commissioner of Police, alongside members of the Command’s management team, participated in the exercise, providing strategic direction and reinforcing the objectives of the ongoing reforms.
CSP Thompson brings extensive operational experience to the role, having previously served as Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Cultism Unit and the CP Monitoring Unit in Ogun State Command. He also held similar positions in Ekiti State Command, including the Anti-Fraud and Anti-Car Theft Units, and served as Divisional Police Officer in Ebonyi State.
CP Ojajuni charged the new commander to align strictly with the reform agenda by upholding professionalism, discipline, and integrity, while ensuring prompt and lawful responses to violent crimes across the state.
The move underscores ongoing efforts by the police leadership to strengthen security architecture and improve public confidence in law enforcement operations in Ogun State.
